Homecoming

I'm finally out of misery island Singapore for good!

I can never get used to the spicy food, hot weather, unreasonable high living expenses and of course, the authoritarian government. To top it all, tons of stupid people who only complain instead of actually doing something.

Let me introduce you to my homeland - Taiwan. I must empathize this: we are NOT a part of China. Fuck all who thinks that Taiwan is a part of PRC. You guys are just sucking on China's balls due to interest of commerce. Fuck you fuckers.

Taiwanese are subdivided into 3 castes:
  1. 原住民*Taiwanese aborigines*: They are native tribes that resided in the mountains.
  2. 本省人*First wave Han immigrants*: They are peasants and laborers who arrived in 1600s.
  3. 外省人*Second wave Han immigrants*: They are warriors, KMT soldiers who came in 1949.
Personally, I am of the second wave immigrant (aka warrior caste) heritage.

4,000 years ago, ancestors of Taiwanese aborigines who were genetically Polynesians settled on the island.

In 1544, a Portuguese ship sighted Taiwan and named it "Ilha Formasa", meaning "beautiful island". The Portuguese made no attempt to colonize Taiwan.

In 1642, the Dutch established a commercial and military base in Taiwan. They began importing laborers from China, which were the ancestors of the First wave Han immigrants.

Skipping all the LONG details, the Dutch were eventually chased out of Taiwan, then came the Japanese, who were also later chased out of Taiwan.

Later, KMT and China Communists went to war twice due to different political beliefs. China apparently gained support from USSR due to being their "brother" in communism.

Whatever it is, it is over and done with. Taiwan developed into what it is today without ANY help from China. The natives lived their own lives. The peasants farmed and harvested with their own hands, the warrior protected the country and fought with their own blood. What freaking right does China have to try to claim us as their own?

When all reasoning failed, they resorted to aiming 2000 missiles at us. This is absolute bully. With the world being materialistic and practical, China, the "awaken dragon" apparently gained much support from many countries due to commercial interests.

Listen up people, comparing Taiwan to China, we eat different food, speak different languages, have different cultures, traditions, lifestyles and political/social beliefs.

Is it right if England were to claim USA as one of its own just because most Americans' ancestors came from England?

Enough said. A picture speaks a thousand words.

Hello

Well, like you I am half Malaysian, but hold Singapore citizenship. I am born and raised in Singapore, lived there for two decades.

I wish you well for returning to your own home. I pored over practically all your posts and can see the animosity you display towards SG. I was a non-patriotic, atypical misfit type of Singaporean, until I left 3 years ago to live in Australia. Then I realised that for all its flaws, I could relate to SG more than any country in this world. I don't harbour any negative feelings towards Taiwan, my best friend in Australia hails from there. Living in the apartment diagonally opposite mine is a Taiwanese who studied in SG for five years, now studying in the same uni as I. He received his SG education in all the elite schools, and he does speak rather fondly of SG, hates Australia, is returning back to Taiwan despite his skills being in demand in Aust.

I definitely did not live the best lifestyle in SG. In fact, I am personally saddened to the fact that there can be so little humanity with regards to how my family (immediate and extended) treated me. Also there are migrants to SG who grew up with me and they are more Singaporean than I ever am, despite me being a bona-fide local. I detested various aspects of SG, but now that I'm in AU, I realise that the Ozzies are another kind of alien. They live lives that freak me out to the core (date someone with 11 previous sexual partners, anyone?), and so on. To integrate into a new environment means having to discard all my cumulated knowledge amassed over the years, and start all over again. That very thought just scares me, it's like a huge loss really.

SG has already formed most of what I am, and from one whose personal makeup is already set in the mould (i.e. grown-up), plus the fact that I very much do not like change, I hereby conclude that Singapore is my home. For all its achievements and accolades, as well as aspects of it that saddens and pisses me off, Singapore is my home.

I know how nice it is to return to an environment that you are comfortable with. By the way, I very much agree with your opinion on the China-Taiwan relations. I am going ''Amen'' (no blasphamation intended tho) at every sentence. Here in Australia I get discriminated against quite a number of fucking times. Reason? China pieces of shit women fuck white guy, cheat and leave him. I innocently come into scene, white guy points finger at me, accuses me of something I didn't freaking bloody do, but because of similar ethnicity, yeah we know the rest. Is it any wonder why I don't want to stay put in Oz?

Save for idiots with self-preservation and self-interests, nobody wants to belong to China alright, hence we see the mass migration of Hong Kongers when the declaration of return to Sino rule was announced, Tibet wanting to be detached, Taiwan wanting to be detached, and I get fucking pissed off whenever people say, Singapore the province of China, or some other fallacy like that. In fact, thanks for enlightening me on the other view of the China-Taiwan issue, I am definitely bookmarking this entry, agree with the argument, and love the graphics used.

If by any slight slim chance I still stay put in Australia, there isn't much chance it will usurp Singapore's ranking in my personal fondness of a country. Especially so when you get random white guys objectifying you because you kind of resemble ''that Sino whore I got my jollies with last Saturday night, damn it why did she screw and leave me? I am just a fuck toy, now dropkicked like a 10 dollar football. Let me trash out my unhappiness with this other oriental looking girl, nevermind if she isn't from China''.

B(u)ey Song already, bloody hell

Oh well I have a tendency to prattle on, but I will wrap it up here. I hope the move back will see a decrease in ill-feelings towards SG, though it's alright haha, everyone is unique and not everyone has to think the same, i.e. must love Singapore. And cheers to the life back in your comfort zone. Signing off,

Charmaine

i totally don't understand why you hate s'pore, well you're born here, just resign to it, why make such a big fuss?

many people want to even be a singaporean, but they could'nt, you should also consider yourself lucky, you'd rather be a peasant, living in the vicious cycle of poverty or at least being someone?

you, too are also, complaining yet not doing anything, if you are that good, go speaker's corner, etc. write letters, instead of, complaining here in your blog, you're not doing much too yeah?

there are like so many corrupted governments out there and here, we at least, we have a reliable, and responsible government!

stop all ur gayish complaints about singapore! you hate it, its ur own problem, don't make it sound asif, singapore owes you a living! uhs, GROW UP!

TO anonymous : you are are the one who needs growing up. Obviously you have neither read my posts nor knew me.

I have spoken at the speakers' corner when it was first launched in Singapore, and yes I spoke against what I was permitted to and yes I even got called up for questioning at the station. That is Singapore for you.

As for my activities in Taiwan, I was at the anti-presidential rally in 2006 which eventually turned into a riot.

If I must choose, I'd rather be a peasant living in a democratic country, not a white collar in a developed country which is actually an authoritarian state in the guide of democracy.

The educational system of Singapore has polluted your mind, so we are from different worlds. And no I did not receive my entire education in Singapore.

You can accuse me of being narrow minded, being insensitive, or even call me an alien, but don't ever say I didn't do anything, coz I did! I have done what I can within my powers and financial ability.

Throw me your financial support (if you have enough) and see if I have the guts to host a rally in SG. As for you, go back to your miserable life.

One more thing, is it a genetic triad or what? Seem like our characters are indeed passed down through our heritage line. My ancestors were warriors and that's why my whole family like to fight for what it's right. But of coz, I must say right and wrong differ accordingly to individual opinions, so we're not always "right" to everyone

Most Singaporeans came from coolie heritage, strangely the attitude of "shut up and follow rules", "resigning to fate" and "don't ever rebel" seem to exist in today's people.

Weird shit.

Charmaine: Well, you mean in Sg people have less sex partner? If that is the same, I'm sorry I must have been living in another world.

11 previous sex partners are nothing, not even in Singaporean context. It's only 2 possibilities: 1) People are not being completely honest; or 2) They can't get laid.

Trust me when I say most people I know in SG have double that figure. By the time they hit mid 20s or younger.

I agree with you on the racial mistaking issue. Yeah I know that sucks... I got into a quarrel with some stupid mofo in the States because he mistook me for a Japanese (pearl harbor).

I've also got into trouble because they thought I was a Viet.

Freaking whites can't tell us apart. Pretty much just like we can't tell an American and an English apart.

Fuck it.
